Fire Sprinklers have been utilised in industrial and commercial applications for well over 200 years. The systems have a proven record in controlling fire, extinguishing fire, limiting heat, limiting smoke, protecting property and most importantly, protecting life.
As the largest number of deaths from a fire occur in the home this led to standards and legislation to expand the use of sprinkler systems specifically for life safety purposes to other applications and premises such as retail premises, schools, domestic and residential premises.
The first document published to cover a sprinkler system for domestic and residential application was a ‘Draft for Development’ BS DD251 in the year 2000 by British Standards. This subsequently became a full British Standard BS9251 in 2005, replaced with BS9251:2014 and once again with the current standard BS9251:2021.
At Patron Fire Consulting we have staff with up to 40 years experience in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire protection systems including those for domestic and residential application as far back as the first designed and installed to DD251 back in 2000.
With the increase in the uses of R&D active systems since 2000, especially hi-rise residential premises, Patron Fire was formed in 2014, primarily a sole trader offering freelance design services to FIRAS accredited companies.
